Carving Of The Permanent Mandibular Molars
Carving Of Permanent Mandibular First Molar
- Mark the cervico-occlusal dimension of the crown and the root on the wax block. The portion of the wax block beyond the root is called the base. Label the surfaces at the bottom of the block as b, l, m, d indicating buccal, lingual, mesial and distal.
- On the occlusal aspect make marking as shown in the figure so that the tooth is wider mesiodistally than buccolingually.
- On the buccal aspect mark the slopes of the 3 buccal slopes and 2 lingual slopes. Carve outside the marking
- Marks the buccal and lingual outlines. Carve wax outside the markings on the buccal and lingual surfaces
- Occlusal surface : Carve the triangular ridges of the 5 cusps and also create the triangular fossa and the central fossa with the marginal ridges.
- Mark the outline of the root on the wax block. There are two roots i.e mesial and distal root. Carve the wax outside the outline which has been marked (shaded portion).
- Check for the dimension and complete carving the anatomy of the tooth in detail. Carve the cervical line and polish the tooth.
