Removable Partial Denture Introduction
Loss of tooth/teeth is serious event in terms of compromise in esthetic, phonetics, and masticatory efficiency. If some teeth are missing, they can be replaced with partial denture. The partial dentures can be of two types, i.e. one which can be removable and the other one is fixed. Present chapter is about removable partial denture. Fixed partial denture.

Removable Partial Denture Definitions
- Partial denture: Prosthesis that replaces one or more, but not all of the missing natural teeth and supporting structures. It is supported by the teeth and/or the mucosa or implants. It may be removable or fixed.
- Removable partial denture: A partial denture that can be removed and replaced in the mouth by the patient.
- Retention: Resistance to removal from the tissues or teeth.
- Abutment: A tooth that supports a partial denture.
- Retainer: A component of a partial denture that provides retention to the partial denture.

- Improve mastication.

- Preserve remaining teeth and supporting structures.
- Restore health, comfort, and quality of life.
Indications for Removable Partial Denture
- Long edentulous span, when fixed partial denture is contraindication.
- No posterior abutment available for a fixed prosthesis.
- Esthetic problem due to excessive alveolar bone loss.
